In this episode, cinematographer Jarin Blaschke is joined by interviewer James Hawkinson, ASC to discuss his work on Nosferatu — director Robert Eggers' fresh retelling of the indelible 1922 silent horror classic.
Set in 1838 Germany, Nosferatu follows the married Hutter couple, Thomas (Nicholas Hoult) and Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp) — the former of whom journeys to a castle in the Carpathian Mountains for a fateful business meeting with one Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård), and the latter of whom develops a psychic connection with the same mysterious Count. The film marks Blaschke's fourth with Eggers, following The Witch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019) and The Northman (2022).

candlelit scenes with practical effects and custom lenses; his use of
precise blocking and camera movements in service of the film's
narrative; his close collaboration with Eggers to create the film's
cohesive, atmospheric world, and more.
